The Dogancay Museum is Turkey’s first modern art museum. The museum is mainly dedicated to the works of its founder, a world renown artist – Burhan Dogancay. This mini-retrospective spans five decades of Dogançay’s artistic evolution starting with his early figurative paintings up to his wall-inspired works as well as photographs. The overriding theme of Burhan’s works lie in his interest in urban walls, which he has captured in a wide variety of styles. According to Dogancay, walls have special meaning because they “serve as a testament to the passage of time, reflecting social, political and economic change.
