Free: All time (US$20 / year membership)
Mind My House is an online community that brings home owners and house sitters together. The deal is, you get free accommodation in exchange of house and pet sitting when the owner is away. Not completely free because to subscribe as an house sitter you will need to pay US$20 per year (the house owners can join for free).

I’ve been a member of Mind MY House (potential house-sitter) for a year now. Definitely not worth the $20 fee. I would continue my membership were it free. But they should also change the name to “BeMySlave.com” since there are very few actual opportunities to just “mind a house.” The site is full of people looking for others not to just mind their house but to run their B&B, milk their goats, run their farm, or even PAY hundreds of dollars per month for the privilege of taking care of their home and pets. So work for no pay. Also, on probably 80% of the offers, the dates are “variable,” so it is impossible to plan anything, which makes it more difficult to be a sitter. There are positive testimonials on the site, but I would guess those are just lucky people. I don’t intend to use this site nor renew my membership.

Hi J.S.,
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Mind My House. Thanks for sharing them. It’s definitely good to know. I was recently recommended this Complete Guide to Housesitting site (http://www.housesittingguide.com) and it has the comparisons of all the housesitting sites out there. Perhaps it’d be useful to read throughout the pros and cons of each of them.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Elys
