Tokyo Fire Department at Ikebukuro provides free life safety learning courses for disasters ranging from earthquake to fire to smoke. Get a feel of being in a level 7 earthquake with their simulated experience. The course will instruct you on safety measures during such occasion. Be prepared to get down on your knees, hide under a table and grasp its leg to hold on to your life. Earthquakes usually come with fire and smoke in the building; visitors will learn how to extinguish fire as well as navigate through smokey situation. The experience should be both educational and quirky for foreigners (since the courses are only delivered in Japanese.). The disaster prevention activities tours run at 9:30am, 1pm and 3pm.
