Space Fish Free: All time

Mohri Garden is located right in the heart of the Roppongi Hills – a mega complex of modern buildings comprised of office space, apartments, shops, hotel, and many others. This elaborate and authentic Japanese garden complete with a pond and trees is quite a juxtapose compared to its surrounding. But what makes it even more so interesting is that in it, one can find the descendents of Space Fish. Yes, that’s correct, fish from outerspace. The Medaka fish found in the pond today are direct descendents of the fish born in space during a 1994 flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia. Astronaut Dr. Chiaki Mukai had taken the Japanese fish on the shuttle as part of an experiment to examine the birth of vertebrates in space. This space-bred fish colony made it back to earth and in 2003, some 10,000 of the descendents were released into the pond.
